Bob Arum puts forth a solution to Pacquiao-Mayweather rift – Boxing news
Hall of Famer promoter Bob Arum has put forth a solution to end Manny Pacquiao’s rift with Floyd Mayweather and to finally bring both the pound-for-pound kings to the ring. Mayweather has been insisting for an Olympic-style drug test for the fight. Initially,
Pacquiao dropped the request but now he is willing to go for it.
However, after Pacquiao accepted Mayweather’s drug testing request, the unbeaten turned in a new request. Mayweather now wants to have the entire pay-per-view earnings and to give Pacquiao $40 million flat fee. Pacquiao rejected the offer saying both the
fighters should get equal share of the revenue.
Now, Bob Arum has presented a solution to fix the situation. In his recent interview, Arum spoke about the current situation and how he thinks both the pugilists should move forward with the pay-per-view proceedings. According to Arum, “Manny Pacquiao has
now taken the position, which I endorse, [that] if Floyd Mayweather thinks that he is the greatest fighter of all time, let's do it 45% to Mayweather, 45% to Pacquiao and 10% to the winner. But we've got to have parity. If Mayweather really believes that he
can beat Pacquiao, which I don't think he believes, he'll pick up more than 50% that way. But it's up to Floyd.”
On the other hand, Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, thinks that Floyd Mayweather’s demand of keeping the entire pay-per-view proceedings is justified. According to Schaefer, Mayweather deserves to get the major share of the revenue. He added
that Mayweather has produced some of the biggest fights in the history of the industry, generating much more revenue than Pacquiao, therefore he deserves a major portion of the share.
Pacquiao and Mayweather, both are kings in the sport. However, since Mayweather is an American, he controls a larger fan base. He is known as Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather because his fights generate high revenue. His recent fight with Miguel Cotto, generated
the second highest revenue stream ever recorded for a boxing match. If Mayweather is asking for the entire revenue of the match, Schaefer thinks he is right because he deserves it.
