Bob Arum regarding Pacquiao’s fight: Everything will be decided by the weekend – Boxing News
After the cancelation of Pacquiao’s November 10 fight date, Bob Arum announced that the Pac-man would fight in December. Most analysts speculated that it might be a hint towards a possible showdown against Miguel Cotto, who will be fighting in New York on
December.
However, Arum has clarified that no such plans are on the cards right now.
“Don't go overboard on this statement that the fight has to be on December 1st,” said Arum in an interview to 8 Count News.
“Everything will be decided by the weekend. I have had meetings with everyone and by Monday afternoon we will announce the place, the opponent, and the date,” he added.
According to Arum, even the November 10 is not cancelled completely yet. He revealed that they are discussing the possibilities of the card and a formal announcement will be made soon.
Pacquiao is to decide his opponent from a list that has Juan Manuel Marquez, Timothy Bradley and Miguel Cotto as possible foes. While Pacquiao is keener towards going for a rematch against Timothy Bradley, Arum wants the Filipino to try his hands on Miguel
Cotto or Marquez once again.
Last week, Pacquiao adviser and friend Michael Koncz revealed that the former WBO welterweight titlist will not be able to fight on November 10.
“We’ve informed Top Rank that we cannot go on November 10. So (Top Rank chief executive) Bob Arum has moved the date to December 1.”
“The election commission just ruled in the Philippines that Manny can authorize somebody to file for him. He doesn't have to be back in October. Manny can have an authorized representative file his papers for him.”
For now, Arum has to decide Pacquiao’s opponent. The Hall of Famer promoter has already given Pacquiao the right to select his own opponents but has narrowed down the list to just three fighters. Pacquiao initially wanted to fight Floyd Mayweather but Arum
ruled out the suggestion, saying the WBC welterweight titlist just recently came out of jail so the possibility of him fighting Pacquiao is not there.
Probably, Arum will have to accept Bradley as Pacquiao’s next foe.
