Bob Arum set to arrive in the Philippines this weekend
Top Rank CEO Bob Arum is scheduled to arrive in the Philippines on Saturday, October 16, to oversee the progress of his top fighter Manny Pacquiao in light of his November 13 contest with Antonio Margarito.
At his side will be stepdaughter Dena DuBoef and Mexican promoter Fernando Beltran. Arum will be shuffled immediately to Baguio City, where the Pacquiao camp has been positioned for the last two weeks.
"I am so excited to get there and see Manny, the team and the Filipino boxing fans."
The foray to the Philippines will mark Arum’s second of the year. In May, he attended the final week of the country's electoral campaign to support the candidacy of Manny Pacquiao, who presently holds a congressional seat in the Sarangani province. On that
occasion, Arum sung deep praise of Pacquiao’s achievements in and out of the ring, saying Pacquiao was the best fighter he had ever seen.
On Monday, Arum and the Pacquiao team will hold a media day, giving the press time to interview the star on recent developments in training camp and the boxing world.
All other significant members of the camp will likewise be available for questions, including hall-of-famer trainer Freddie Roach, conditioning coach Alex Ariza, and sparring partners Michael Medina, Glen Tapia, and WBA titlist Amir Khan.
Pacquiao’s week has been full of sparring sessions, mitt-hitting with Roach, and intense isometric workouts with Ariza. Ariza presently has Manny on a highly selective dietary plan that includes upwards of 7,000 calories a day and a variety of herbal supplements.
Pacquiao’s entourage will be leaving Baguio City on October 22 to make a brief stop in Manila, and then will be going directly to Los Angeles. Training will continue henceforth at Roach’s famous Wild Card Gym for the two remaining weeks of camp.
