Bob Arum talks about Marquez vs. Pacquiao – Boxing News
Hall of Famer promoter of Top Rank Bob Arum believes Juan Manuel Marquez will fight against Timothy Bradley, if Manny Pacquiao chooses a rematch against Miguel Cotto. Arum is hoping for Pacquiao to select a fourth encounter against Juan Manuel Marquez, as
he believes it will be a huge sell-out.
“If it's Cotto and Pacquiao, then Bradley and Marquez will fight each other. That is correct. That's not wrong. That's logical, and the fighters have agreed to that,” said Arum in a recent interview.
Bob Arum was in the Philippines some days back meet the Filipino fight king. Arum wanted Pacquiao to decide on his opponent so he could start the promotional process but their meeting ended with no decision. Pacquiao still has not decided his opponent for
either November 10 or December 1. He has three fighters he can from, which include Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez, Miguel Cotto and Timothy Bradley.
“Now, the question is...Manny is not reluctant to fight Cotto, but Cotto may be reluctant to fight Manny. That's what we'll have to see. So the Cotto people will get back to me tomorrow or Friday.”
“Manny will make a decision by the end of the week. And then, we'll go from there,” said Arum.
Manny lost his WBO welterweight title to Timothy Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight ended with a controversial split decision win for the American, raising criticism from fans, fighters and analysts from all around the world.
The World Boxing Organisation even went for a fight review with a five-judge panel. The panel awarded Pacquiao as winner of the bout by a wide margin. Later on, Pacquiao promised his fans that he would bring the title home and urged them to calm down.
On the other hand, Bradley has been eager to face Pacquiao in a rematch, since he feels dejected over the way boxing fans have turned against him. According to Bradley, it was not his fault if the judges announced him the victor. Bradley wants to face Pacquiao
once again and win the showdown in a more decisive manner to prove his mettle.
