Bob Arum to fly to the Philippines to discuss Pacquiao’s opponent – Boxing News
Hall of Famer Promoter Bob Arum is finally on his toes to decide former WBO welterweight titlist Manny Pacquiao’s November 10 opponent.
After a series of discussions with the Filipino fighter, Arum is still uncertain as to what Pacquiao is planning. The Pac-man is busy helping out flood victims in his city, and has hardly spoken about his boxing ambitions recently, something that has irked
Arum.
“I'll be over there for a week, and while I'm there we'll figure out what the plans are for his next fight,” said Arum in an interview to ESPN.com.
According to Arum, Pacquiao can fight either Juan Manuel Marquez or Timothy Bradley. When asked about the possibility of Pacquiao facing Floyd Mayweather, Arum shrugged off the notion saying there is no chance of both the welterweights colliding this fall.
“I gotta tell Manny what I can afford for each fight and we need to talk about each fight, but he makes his own decision,” said Top Rank’s promoter Arum.
“I've talked to him once earlier in the summer and he's been thinking about what he wants to do. He's going to fight on Nov. 10, but we'll spend some time talking through everything and getting everything ironed out, and then I talk to the opponents and
try to make a deal,” he added.
Last time when Pacquiao and Arum met, the Filipino pride insisted on a match against Mayweather but Arum declined it. Later on, Arum came up saying he would want Floyd Mayweather to fight Pacquiao, but by then the Filipino former champion had revealed his
plans of going for a rematch against Timothy Bradley.
As of now, Arum believes that a fight against Marquez would be the best showdown for fans. However, Pacquiao is not up for fighting Marquez for a fourth time, believing that he has ‘already been there, and done that’.
Although Arum has previously claimed that Manny Pacquiao has earned the right to decide his own opponents. However, now it seems like Arum is already annoyed with Pacquiao’s resistance towards Marquez and he might be hoping the Filipino to change his stance.
