Bob Arum to meet Manny Pacquiao this week – Boxing News
Top Rank’s Bob Arum is eager to meet former WBO welterweight titlist Manny Pacquiao this week to decide the Filipino’s next opponent. Pacquiao will be returning to the USA this week after spending nearly a month on European vacations.
Pacquiao is scheduled to fight on November 10, however his opponent is not yet decided. In their last meeting, Arum and Pacquiao could not decide as to which fighter should face Pacman next. Pacquiao consistently pushed Arum to set him up against Mayweather
but Arum denied.
According to Arum, Mayweather is on a 90-day jail sentence and during his absence nobody can assure if the unbeaten American will face Pacquiao on November 10 or not. Arum his trying his level best to set Pacquiao for a fourth match against Mexican Juan
Manuel Marquez, as the Hall of Famer promoter believes it will be a more selling bout than a rematch against Bradley.
When asked if Arum will be seeing Pacquiao this week, the Hall of Promoter said, “I understand that Manny’s returning this Wednesday but I’ll see him when I get back from the press tour for the Sergio Martinez-Julio Cesar Chavez fight.”
He added, “We’ll see when Manny gets back.”
Nevertheless, Arum did say that he would be closing the deal with Pacquiao pretty soon. In his previous interview, Arum has indicated that he wants Pacquiao to take on Marquez instead of going head to head with Bradley this year.
According to Arum, the controversial decision loss of Pacquiao to Bradley has already upset fans. Therefore, he believes, a rematch between the two will not be a good seller. Being a businessman and a renowned promoter, Arum knows well when to get Bradley
for Pacquiao.
Bradley defeated Pacquiao on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Even though almost all fighters and analysts believe Pacquiao won, the judges scored the fight in Bradley’s favour, leaving fans and everyone else appalled at the sight.
For now, Arum believes that the controversial decision has damaged the sport enough. Right now, he wants to add to the Pacquiao brand instead of extracting more from it.
