Bob Arum updates on Manny Pacquiao training camp
Caught at a recent press conference to promote upcoming fights, Top Rank chief Bob Arum said that Manny Pacquiao is “doing unbelievable” and that he is “training like they have never seen him before” for Antonio Margarito. He said the same holds for “The
Tijuana Tornado” Margarito.
The two are set to clash on November 13 for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title at the Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The event looks to draw an astonishing 70,000 fans at the gate, more than 20,000 more than the last time Pacquiao fought in the
Stadium against Joshua Clottey.
When asked what it’s like promoting fights for Pacquiao and offering them to his fan base, Bob Arum said it was “really great” and proceeded to tell a story to confirm his words. Arranging for a trip to Cuba, he went to get some vaccinations, whereby he
was confronted with a Philippine nurse. Arum said she immediately knew who he was and “practically fainted” because “the Philippine people are so tied up in Manny Pacquiao.”
The news from Arum seemed to slightly contracted updates by Alex Ariza, Pacquiao’s conditioning coach, who recently told a local Philippine newspaper Pacquiao was training hard but that he still had a lot of work to do.
Ariza emphasized that in the upcoming Margarito bout the emphasis will ultimately be on building stamina and strength against Margarito, who is naturally the bigger and stronger fighter.
As time winds down for the fight two camps seem to be clearly emerging: those who think Pacquiao will be able to beat Margarito to the punch all night and stay out of the line of fire, and those who think “Pacman” will have a hard night ahead of him. Ariza
vows that they will attempt to counter the Margarito’s aggressiveness and his tenacity to lean on opponents to wear them down.
