Bob Arum wants Pacquiao to lock horns with Marquez once again – Boxing News
Hall of Famer promoter Bob Arum wants former WBO welterweight titlist Manny Pacquiao to lock horns with Juan Manuel Marquez once again. Both the fighters have faced each other thrice. Pacquiao has won two fights while one went into a draw.
Hailing from Mexico, Juan Manuel Marquez was the face of boxing just when Manny Pacquiao took his place by outfoxing him in the ring twice. Their last encounter ended up in a controversial decision win for Pacquiao, which is why most fans and analysts believe
there is room for a fourth match.
Even though Marquez and his camp are eagerly awaiting Pacquiao’s response for their rematch challenge, the Filipino fighter is keener towards facing the unbeaten American fighter Floyd Mayweather. However, Bob Arum, who promotes Pacquiao, is of another view.
When asked about Pacquiao’s loss to Bradley, Arum replied, “I don’t want to do a rematch.”
He added, “This fight was a one-sided fight. If it had been scored properly, 10-2 or 9-3 [in rounds], who would be asking for a rematch? – Nobody. Just because these officials screwed up, that doesn’t justify a rematch.”
“I asked them to investigate my involvement as a promoter. I want them to take my testimony.”
It should be noted here that Arum met Pacquiao two weeks back to finalise the Filipino’s next opponent. However, the meeting ended up without a decision, as the Filipino was insisting on facing Floyd Mayweather, who is currently in the jail serving his 90-day
sentence.
For now, Arum wants Pacquiao to go head to head against Juan Manuel Marquez, instead of a rematch against Bradley. After the entire controversy regarding Pacquiao’s loss to Bradley, Arum believes there is nothing left for a rematch. However, the Top Rank
promoter does believe a fourth match between Manny and Marquez would sell.
Arum is of the view that the judges have already disappointed fans by awarding Bradley winner of the June 9 match. Therefore, according to Arum, a rematch between Bradley and Pacquiao will not be as good a seller as Pacquiao’s fourth meeting with Marquez,
as fans are demanding it.
