Bob Arum’s son reported missing
The son of Top Rank Promotions chief, Bob Arum, has been reported missing, causing the promoter to abandon a promotional tour for the upcoming bout between Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito.
Arum was in Los Angeles on Tuesday to usher in Manny Pacquiao, who arrived the previous night, and head the first promotional conference in the city. The Pacquiao-Margarito bout, which will be held at the Cowboys’ Stadium in Dallas, Texas, will be for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title. It is predicted to draw upwards of 70,000 eager fans.
Tuesday night, The Los Angeles Times reported that Arum left a news conference at the Beverly Hills Hotel early in the day after being notified that his son, John Arum, 49, had been declared missing while on a hiking trip in the mountains near Seattle. Boxing promoter Lee Samuels confirmed the news, saying, "We got a call today that he had gone hiking and is missing, so Bob told the staff this morning that he would leave the tour and take a flight to Seattle. Bob and his wife, Lovee, have left the tour and proceeded to Seattle." Before heading to Washington State, Arum hastily told The Los Angeles Times: “They've got search parties looking for him right now."
The promotional tour is scheduled to stop in New York this Wednesday, followed by Dallas on Thursday and Friday. No scheduling changes have been announced.
Like his father, John B. Arum is an attorney. He is a product of the first of senior Arum’s three marriages. John has an interest in environmental law, and is currently serving his second term as a member of the Washington Environmental Council.
