Bob Baffert sends Coil and Game on Dude to double the chances in the Goodwood Stakes at Santa Anita
The Grade 1 $250,000 Goodwood Stakes will be held at Santa Anita Park on 1 October, 2011, over a distance of 1 1/8 miles on dirt and it is for 3-year-old males and above. The winner will gain a starting position in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic on 5
November at Churchill Downs.
The winner’s share of purse, and the reward for winning the race has interested the likes of Acclamation, Awesome Gem and 7 other runners, including the Bob Baffert duo, Game on Dude and Coil.
The double entry from Bob Baffert indicates that the trainer is looking for his first win in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Classic, as he is sending out his pair in the Santa Anita feature race.
The son of Awesome Again, out of Worldly Pleasure by Devil His Due, Game on Dude has been running in races without a win in four races. His last win came at Santa Anita Park when he ran in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap on 5 March, 2011.
Bob Baffert sent out two runners out of his stable earlier this year as well, when he sent out First Dude and Game on Dude in the Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup, but Game on Dude was nosed out by First Dude after a sensational run.
The 4-year-old gelding, Game on Dude, tried his luck in the Grade 1 Pacific Classic, but he had to be content with a fourth place finish, defeated by Stately Victory, Twirling Candy and Acclamation.
On the other hand, the 3-year-old colt, Coil, who will be racing against older males for the first time, had a flop after a sparkling performance.
The son of Point Given defeated the Grade 1 Preakness Stakes' winner, Shackleford, by a neck in the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park.
The win provided him with a top position in the sophomore division and a berth in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, but he got completely shot down in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga, finishing 10th.
The Bob Baffert trained duo will have to run out of their skins to pull this one out to defeat the Goodwood Stakes' line-up, after their unpredictable performances.
