Bob Baffert undergoes heart surgery in Dubai
Veteran US trainer Bob Baffert has gone through an emergency heart surgery after he suffered heart attack in Dubai on Monday morning.
Ahead of Saturday's World Cup meeting, the legendary handler was staying in the Atlantis Hotel, where he suffered an early morning heart attack.
Bob Baffert is being given the best of medical facilities and was reported in a "comfortable" condition in the hospital.
The 59-year-old is one of the famous figures in the horseracing circles. So far in his excellent career, the champion trainer has secured three Kentucky Derby titles alongside seven Breeders' Cup victories.
At the start of this month, one of his top trainees, Eden's Moon, clinched victory in the Grade 1 Las Virgenes Stakes. Perpetuating his good run, Baffert guided Secret Circle to an emphatic triumph in the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes at OaklAWn Park.
His ace runner, Game On Dude, is set to unleash his talent in the Dubai World Cup. Moreover, The Factor will be seen representing Baffert in the Golden Shaheen.
Since the experienced trainer will not be able to take care of his trainees on next few days, the assistant trainer, Tim Yakteen, has started shouldering responsibilities in his absence.
Giving details of Baffert’s medical condition, Bernie Schiappa, one of the owners of Game On Dude, said on Monday:
“Bob had a heart attack at 3am and was taken by paramedics to the hospital. Sheikh Mohammed helped immensely in Bob being taken care of and the procedure to insert three stents being done so quickly.”
"From the time we got to the emergency room to the intensive care unit, within two hours they had the procedure done which was just remarkable. Bob is in a comfortable condition in intensive care and tomorrow hopefully he can be moved to another part of
the hospital," he added.
Talking about Baffert’s discharge from hospital, he explained that it will entirely depend how he recovers. However, he explained that the champion handler will walk out of the hospital in next couple of days, if everything goes well.
He also shared that Baffert will be able to take care of his runners, if he gets himself discharged from hospital on coming Thursday.
