Bob Bradley relishing the possibility of managing Aston Villa
The vacant Manager post at Aston Villa is attracting attention from all corners, and the latest one to be eyeing the position is the USA team manager Bob Bradley. Bob said that he would be honoured to take the job. The speculation is growing considering the American connection with Villa, as Randy Lerner the American businessman is the owner of the club.
Bradley impressed everyone with USA’s performance in the world cup, and since then he is being considered as one of the favourites to take over the spot left by the exit of Martin O’Neil.
Bob Bradely said that till now there have been only speculations, and he has only heard of it in the news like everyone else. He said that he would love to have a talk with Randy Lerner and discuss the possibilities of the deal actually taking place.
Former Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neil left the club following some problems with the board and the club owner. He was at the club for 4 years and in the end said that there was a difference of opinion between him and the club management. Club owner Randy Lerner also said that in the final days the manager had changed and it was becoming increasingly difficult to get along. O’Neil was mostly upset about the lack of funds available to him during the transfer window, and to add to that the players he had been working hard on were being let go by the club. James Milner’s transfer saga with Manchester City was probably the biggest shocker to him. He said that he had brought in Milner last season because he saw him as a long-term investment and he leaving the club went against his strategy. Martin was also reflected back on last season’s transfer window when Gareth Barry was the topic of a speculated move to Manchester City and despite constant denial from O’Neil, Barry was let go and he eventually joined Manchester city just like James Milner. Another young prodigy of O’Neil Ashley Young was also rumoured to be on his way out of the club and that too played a part in his departure.
Bob Bradley the manager of USA football team has contract that runs out at the end of 2010, he said that even though he has no prior experience in Europe, he would love the opportunity and has no doubts that he can make it work well.
He said that USA football federation is adamant on extending his contract, but for now he has held off talks as he is waiting to see what happens in the Aston Villa job opportunity. Bradley went on to say that he is proud of what he has achieved with USA team and would love to carry on and go on to better things, but still the lure of managing in Europe is something that is very attractive to him. He said that he has always taken on challenges in his career and managing Villa no doubt would be a big one, but he feels that he is well equipped to deal with it.
For now the chances of Bob Bradley coming to English football remain unclear, next couple of weeks though may paint a clearer picture.
