Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan: A look at their 2010 performances
The top ranked Michael Carl Bryan and Robert Charles Bryan are two professional tennis players from United States of America. They remained in the number one doubles position for a record two hundred and one weeks. The American
pair also set an open era record by taking part in seven men’s doubles major title battles in a row, three of which they won in the end.
As far as their performances in 2010 are concerned, the Bryans started the season by competing at the 2010 Heineken Open doubles competition in Auckland. They however were defeated in the opening round. They next went on to successfully
defend their crown at the year’s opening Grand Slam, the Australian Open in Melbourne, defeating Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor in the finals. The title came in as their eighth Grand Slam.
The Americans then also defended their crowns at the 2010 Delray Beach International as well as the United States Men’s Clay Court Tournament in Houston. The duo played in the opening round of 2010 Davis Cup where they were drawn
to meet Serbia on the clay court. Mike, however, pulled out of the event as a result of food poisoning and was substituted by his compatriot fellow, John Isner. Isner along with Bob triumphed in the doubles rubber in a five setter clash versus Zimonjic and
Janko Tipsarevic. However, America lost the tie at 3-2 in the end.
Bob and Mike then grabbed two back to back trophies during the European clay tour in Rome and Madrid. At the 2010 Internazionali BNL d'Italia, the American pair got the better of Isner and Sam Querrey whereas at the 2010 Mutua
Madrilena Madrid Open, they did well to beat Nestor and Zimonjic in straight sets.
As a result of this victory, the Americans also ended their ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crown drought since 2008. They levelled the Woodies record of sixty one doubles trophies on the tour. Seeded number one at the French Open,
the Bryans recorded their earliest departure at a major event since 2001 by falling down at the hands of Bruno Soares and Marcelo Melo in the second round.
Next, at the grass court Grand Slam tournament, the twins once again couldn’t surpass the quarter final round as they were knocked down by d**k Norman and Wesley Moodie in the quarters. The Bryans lifted their 62nd career
doubles crown in Los Angeles and thus successfully defended their title as well. This victory also surpassed the sixty one career doubles title record of Woodies as a pair.
They continued with their excellent form in Toronto and reached the final round of 2010 Rogers Cup men’s doubles event and successfully won their 63rd crown of the career. At the year’s final major, the United States
Open in New York, the Bryans made it into the finals where they faced the India- Pakistan doubles pair of Rohan Bopanna and Aisam ul Haq Qureshi. The Americans did well to get past them in two sets. The final match score was 7–6(5), 7–6(4).
In their most recent performance at the China Open, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan played their first competition since the U.S Open victory in New York. The pair once again met their fans' expectations and made their way into the finals.
They extended their winning streak to 18-0 with a title victory over Marcin Matkowski and Mariusz Fyrstenberg. The final match score was 6–1, 7–6(5).
