Bob Geren overjoyed with series win over Texas Rangers as club makes title ambitions known
The Oakland Athletics may be trailing the Los Angeles Angels and the Texas Rangers in the American League West but they are far from the top spot.
With a four-game winning series over the Rangers, they have proven they are in the mix for the top spot in the league. They want a playoff spot badly and with a long time left on the horizon, they may cement their dominance in the division.
They have the power to do it and there is not much resistance on the canvass. Their pitching squad is considered the best in the American League and with a rising tide of hitters in their midst, manager, Bob Geren, is more than happy to dream of a post season
position. In the last outing against the Texas Rangers on Monday, the A’s were trailing 3–4 in the seventh inning.
After a tough display of prowess with the bat, Josh Willingham tied the game in the eighth and Hideki Matsui unleashed a walk off homer in the tenth to close the game with a positive result. The skipper was more than happy to be a part of something special
that day.
"I've never seen this group that animated and excited after a win", Geren said. "Guys were just jumping high. I hope they didn't hit their head on the dugout. That ball came off the bat and it was loud. That was a thrill".
The A’s have a lot of potential in their squad and if they keep their focus, they will be able to bring home an all important win in the division. The manager spoke of their position in reference to the Rangers after their series win.
"It lets them know what we can do", Geren said. "I think they obviously respect our talent, and we respect them - as they are the defending AL champions- but to have this type of game and walk off in style like that definitely helps in a lot of different
ways - psychologically and in the standings".
If the Athletics do get to the playoffs, it will be through sheer hard work.
