Bob Hartley, Calgary Flames counting on mutual support for a successful season -NHL Update
While a team counts on its players and head coach to lead it through a tough time, especially one that the Calgary Flames are facing at the moment, the Canadian Western Conference club and newly appointed coach, Bob Hartley, are counting on each other to
get through next season and have a good time.
Calgary Flames are a definitely desperate at the moment and are basically willing to do anything to avoid missing the postseason again like they did for the second time in a row after nearly grabbing the final eighth spot.
Los Angeles Kings took over, barely made the playoffs and surprisingly, had one of the best runs to take their first ever Stanley Cup championship in franchise history.
Players realise that Hartley is wanting to try some different things this time to see as to what can make the team better when facing the competition. For now, he is just experimenting and nothing can be said for certain.
"He's demanding for all the right reasons," Calgary’s Alex Tanguay told the Flames' website. "He wants everybody to play the way that he thinks they are capable of playing and playing attention to detail. He's a very, very good coach behind the bench. He
knows the matchup he wants; he knows how much guys have played."
Even Jarome Iginla came out to praise their new head coach, who replaced Brent Sutter this year.
"His reputation and accomplishments are very impressive," Iginla added. "He has had success at every level. I've also heard good things about him from other players. I have heard he is a very detailed and passionate coach, and from our initial conversation,
I'm looking forward to learning from him and getting better as a team."
Hartley has a number of situations to confront when the next regular season kicks off. They will have to decide who their next top centre player will be along with Jay Bouwmeester, who is most likely leaving the club this offseason after the inclusion of
Washington Capitals’ Dennis Wideman.
Calgary is also full of young players and handling that just might be Hartley’s biggest challenge yet.
