Bob Hewitt, Hall of Famer, struck with abuse allegation in his last days – Tennis News
Tennis Hall of Famer, Bob Hewitt, is struck with a massive controversy of indulging into immoral acts with his students. Hewitt had a legendary career as a tennis player and he ruled the world of doubles tennis and mixed doubles
as well. He won nine Grand Slam title in men’s doubles category and six in mixed doubles category.
There is no doubt that he was the legend in the field of tennis and reserves all rights to be praised for his illustrious career but his life outside the court has been full of controversies. Hewitt has been accused of rape and
sexual abuse with his students.
All these allegations were brought in the limelight when one of the American students, Heather Crowe Connor, of Hewitt stated that “I think one of the first questions he asked me was ‘Did you ever make love to anyone?’ and then
he spelled it out and said intercourse.” Ms. Crowe Connor was just 15 when he was asked this question by his trainer, Hewitt.
This statement was soon followed by another African student, Sue Ellen Sheehan, standing up against the immoral acts of Hewitt and accusing him of rape on the car back seat when she was just 11-years-old. Sheehan said “The one
on one session were half hours or 45 minutes of avoiding his hands. It was horrible.”
Nine women were questioned about this horrible acts of Hewitt and four of them stood against him and his immoral activities on an off the field of tennis and the investigation lasted for six-months. 50-year-old, Ms. Crowe Connor,
further added “He told me I couldn’t tell anyone or he would be in big trouble. He called it statutory rape.”
Bob Hewitt was investigated about all these accusations and he showed little negativity about the facts put forth by her students about his character during practice sessions. 71-year-old Hall of famer said that why is that lady
telling all these incidents now. He said “What’s she bringing it up now for?”
That clearly shows that the students were right about the corrupt character of the legendry tennis icon and there is hardly any manipulation by any of the statements put forth by his students. He further added “I only want to apologise
if I offended anyone in any way. I have had a long, good career which I enjoyed. I do not want to end my career like this.”
Hewitt’s apology confirms his acts in his early age and now he is begging those students that are ruining his life’s ending moments. He further added that his wife was on medication and he is also a heart patient so it will be
good for everyone that they stay quiet and create no more problems for him and he is also sorry for all his wrong doings that have ever hurt anyone of his students.
