Bob Woolmer is the best coach I have played under, says Mohammad Asif - Cricket News Update
Pakistan’s controversial fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robert-Andrew-Woolmer-c85587 is the best coach he has played under and added that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should opt for a foreign coach in order to avoid any politics within the team.
Asif is currently serving a ban imposed on him after the spot-spot fixing controversy, which broke the back of Pakistan cricket during their tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in 2010.
Woolmer was appointed as the coach of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 team in 2004 and the Green Shirts performed well during his reign. The captain of Pakistan team at that time, Inzamam ul Haq, and Woolmer had excellent co-ordination and brought a lot of laurels for the country.
However, Woolmer's tenure ended sadly as he was found dead in his hotel room after Pakistan’s shocking defeat in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup 2007 in the Caribbean.
Asif said that he will always remember Woolmer because of his attitude and behaviour towards the players. Many coaches support their players when the team is doing well but Woolmer was someone who supported the team during the lows as well.
The fast bowler said, “My experience of working with Bob Woolmer will always be fantastic memories. He was a great coach, a great human being and someone who really impressed me. He knew how to talk to the boys, how to get the best out of them. His mannerisms
whether we had won or lost were brilliant.”
Pakistan’s present coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 is going to be his last assignment as the mentor of Green Shirts. PCB is yet to decide about his successor.
Asif is off the opinion that PCB should go for a foreign coach because somehow or the other, local coaches get involved in the politics within the team.
“Whoever gets the role has a lot of work ahead of them. It seems to be a Pakistani cricketer’s trait that after the initial settling in period for a coach, some players then start throwing negative comments around about the coach to the media,” Asif added.
