Bob jones expensive, worth it?

Another question about bob jones, do their books target homeschoolers or is it aimed for public schools with their materials with very explanation and made to be taught by a teacher -- rather then the text book explaing it throughly for homeschools

  1. It is very "textbookish" and yes, like A beka, it's set up for classrooms.  It's way, way too conservative for me, on top of the textbook/workbook approach.

    I also have some private issues with BJUP that makes me not want to support them.


  2. They do sell home school kits that are adapted for homeschoolers.  I really like their English.  My daughter loved the Science, but we only used it one year because it was too time consuming for me with five children.

  3. I prefer a literature based approach rather than a textbook approach. Have you looked at Sonlight. I have a link on my blog for a free catalog. I have used Sonlight for 4+ years and both my kids and I love it!

    It looks somewhat expensive but I have resold mine every year on Ebay for about 75% of the cost and it comes with a really great return policy if it's not a good fit for your family.

  4. I've heard that bob Jones is wonderful.  you really have to buckle down to complete it, but my friends say it's well worth the money and they continue to use it.  I'm not sure about public schools though.  My friends used it as homeschooling.
