Bobbi Gichard captures Women’s 50m backstroke gold – 2013 NZ Open Championships
Bobbi Gichard of Greendale Swim Team captured gold medal of the Women’s 50m backstroke on third day of the 2013 NZ Open Championships in Westwave Aquatic Centre, Auckland, on Tuesday, March 19.
Gichard devastated hopes of her opponents in the shortest backstroke discipline as she remained prominent for gold medal from the start. She gained a marginal lead over her challengers in the start but with her unrelenting efforts throughout the lap, she
managed to secure gold medal.
With her impeccable pace, she remained in a considerable lead over her supporters and hit the wall for first position with the timing of 29.51 seconds.
The champion was chased by Kate Godfrey of Neptune Swimming Club, who stayed 0.41 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall for silver medal by producing a time of 29.92 seconds.
Third fastest spot of the race was obtained by Rima Williams of Laser Mt Eden Swimming Club, who suffered a loss of only 0.02 seconds from her former finisher and clocked a time of 29.94 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was secured by Tirol Palmer of North Shore Swimming, who stayed 0.11 seconds away from securing the podium and ended her race in a time of 30.05 seconds.
Fifth position of the event was obtained by JoMari Meyer of Greendale Swim Team, who stayed 0.05 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 30.10 seconds.
Meyer was followed by Laura Quilter of North Shore Swimming, who stayed 0.11 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with an effort of 30.21 seconds for sixth place.
Seventh fastest spot of the event was obtained by Rebekah Bradley of United Swimming Club, who was 0.53 seconds apart and hit the finishing wall with the timing of 30.74 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Grace Marriner-Duncan of Laser Mt Eden Swimming Club, who was 0.09 seconds behind and clocked a time of 30.83 seconds.
Furthermore, Gichard received massive appreciation from the audience for her notable efforts and collected accolades after the completion of session.
