Bobby Butler scores two to lift Ottawa Senators past Calgary Flames 3-1 -NHL Match Update
Calgary had the most shots during the final two periods but Craig Anderson did not let it take advantage of him as he blocked 38 of 39 shots while Bobby Butler scored two straight in the third period to lift the Ottawa Senators over the Flames, 3-1, Tuesday
night, November 15, 2011, at the sold-out Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
After a commanding, 5-2, previous victory of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Ottawa let the National Hockey League (NHL) know that they mean business by winning their second straight now after a disappointing five-game losing streak to start off November.
"When you have a bad game, you want to get right back in there and prove to everybody that you can do a good job”, said Anderson, who stopped 31 of 33 shots Saturday against Toronto. "The guys have been playing really well the last couple games, allowing
me to make the saves from the outside, control the rebounds, and the defence has done a great job of cleaning up in front".
Ottawa Senators captain, Daniel Alfredsson, kicked off the scoring late in the second period after both teams failed to pot a single point in the first 38 minutes.
Tom Kostopoulos answered back for the Flames with 14 seconds remaining in the second to reassure the home crowd that Calgary would not go down without a fight.
Bobby Butler, who was hinted at training hard over the days in order to score his first of the 2011-2012 NHL regular season, finally potted his first 9:50 into the third period for the tie-breaker and amazingly added another with less than four minutes remaining
to win the match.
"It's one of those things where statistically, you knew he was going to have a breakout game where he was going to score a couple", Anderson said taking about Butler’s training.
Ottawa Senators have three games remaining on their road trip, the next being against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday followed by the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday and Pittsburgh Penguins to end it off on Friday.
Calgary Flames host the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday for the second time in four nights.
