Bobby Cruickshanks, Lee Walker, Vincent Muldoon attempt for pro tour: European Snooker Championship
Ireland’s Vincent Muldoon, Lee Walker from Wales and Scotland’s Bobby Cruickshanks will make their last attempt at the European Snooker Championship 2011, to grab the final spot of the 2011-12 season’s main tour.
The championship will run from Tuesday, June 7 to Friday, June 17, at the Dedeman Hotel in Bulgaria.
The European Billiards and Snooker Association (EBSA) will inaugurate the tournament. Out of 100 pro tour spots, 99 have been allotted and the winner of the European Snooker Championship 2011 will occupy the remaining one spot.
There will be 64 players battling for the title and the pro tour spot, representing a total of 28 countries. The players are divided into eight groups with eight players in each group. The event will be played on the basis of round-robin, where each group
will feature a winner who will qualify for the quarter-final stage. The eventual winner of the championship will earn a place for the professional tour of the 2011-12 season.
Scotland’s Bobby Cruickshanks could not make a strong impact in all the three events of the Q School and faced early exits in the tournament. However, he has his eyes again on the pro tour spot and he will definitely be looking forward to make it this time,
as this is the only chance he has got.
Another potential contender is the Welshman, Lee Walker. The 35-year-old tried his luck in Q School, but could not make it to the main tour. He reached the quarter-final stage of the Q School Event 2, but lost to Simon Bedford 3-4 after a thrilling encounter.
Irishman, Vincent Muldoon, is hoping for a positive outcome in the championship as he aims to put his best into the game to clinch the tour card. He could not participate in the Qualifying School (Q School) because of his University examinations. However,
the 20-year-old Muldoon has the tendency to make major upsets and he will surely be the player to watch out for.
Some other players like the Welsh number one, Daniel Wells and England’s Adam Duffy will also be present in the European Snooker Championship 2011. Both cueists have secured the professional tour card already through their victories in the World Snooker
Q School 2011.
