Bobby Hurley captures Men’s 50m backstroke gold – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Bobby Hurley of SOPAC, NSW captured gold medal of the Men’s 50m backstroke on day four of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Saturday, September 15.
The 23-year-old Hurley demonstrated his stupendous efforts in the shortest backstroke discipline and proved his mettle for the title of the event. With his utter determination, Hurley remained in a slight lead over his competitors from the start and touched
the wall for gold medal.
He continued his nerve-breaking form throughout the race and sprinted his way towards the finishing blockade by submitting a time of 23.49 seconds for the crown.
The gold medallist was followed by Benjamin Treffers of Burley Griffin, who remained 0.34 seconds away from his foregoing finisher and touched the wall with a timing of 23.83 seconds for silver medal.
The second position holder was followed by Ashley Delaney of Nunawading, who suffered a loss of only 0.01 seconds from his former finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 23.84 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth position of the event was obtained by Daniel Blackborrow of Melbourne VIC, who remained 0.36 seconds away from upsetting the third position holder and emerged on the wall with a timing of 24.20 seconds.
Blackborrow was followed by Mitchell Dixon of SOPAC, NSW, who remained 0.27 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and ended his race in fifth best place by submitting a time of 24.47 seconds.
The 22-year-old Dixon was traced by Ben Edmonds of Unattached, SA, who stayed only 0.03 seconds behind and finished sixth in the race by posting a time of 24.50 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was secured by Joshua Beaver of Tigersharks, VIC, who remained 0.19 seconds apart and ended his race with an effort of 24.69 seconds.
Beaver was traced by Andrew Gillespie of Acacia Bayside, who remained just a half body length slower from his former finisher and posted a time of 25.07 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Hurley received massive appreciation from the crowd for his gold finish and collected his awards and accolades after the event.
