Bobby Hurley clinches Men’s 100m backstroke gold – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Bobby Hurley of SOPAC, NSW clinched gold medal of the Men’s 100m backstroke on day two of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Thursday, September 13.
Hurley outsmarted his challengers over the finishing end in a comfortable manner as he faced no difficulty throughout the four-lap event and proved his dominancy for the crown of the event.
With his impeccable pace, Hurley remained just a stroke ahead of his closest competitor and occupied gold medal of the race by submitting a wonderful effort of 50.98 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Ashley Delaney of Nunawading, who remained 0.29 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end for silver medal of the race by reporting a nice time of 51.27 seconds.
Delaney was chased by Ben Edmonds of Unattached, SA, who was 1.03 seconds slower from the second position holder and clocked a phenomenal time of 52.30 seconds.
Fourth best qualifying position of the race was secured by Daniel Blackborrow of Melbourne VIC, who suffered a loss of only 0.08 seconds slower from his former finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 52.38 seconds.
Blackborrow was followed by Joshua Beaver of Tigersharks, VIC and Benjamin Treffers of Burley Griffin, who remained involve in a fierce battle with each other.
The duo struggled hard to escape each other over the finishing wall but failed and ended their swim in a joint finish for fifth position. They stayed just 0.02 seconds apart and settled on the finishing blockade as fifth position holder by submitting a time of 52.40 seconds.
Seventh best position of the race was obtained by Bob Jovanovich of Arena, WA, who remained 0.19 seconds slower and posted a time of 52.59 seconds.
Jovanovich was traced by Matson Lawson of Tigersharks, VIC, who was one and a half body length apart and completed his race in a time of 54.04 seconds.
In addition, Hurley received massive appreciation from the audience for his gruelling efforts while he expressed his desire of struggling hard and achieving the same at superior levels of international swimming.
