Bobby Jenks tender denied – Chicago White Sox update
General Manager Ken Williams needs to make critical decisions and that has to come at a cost to the Chicago White Sox. Those who know the club will remember Bobby Jenks greatly. The top bullpen member is the first to hit the deck and team has confirmed that
a tender offer to the veteran has been declined. Though there isn’t any voice made on cutting the relief pitcher out, the GM has left the door open for a deal to come through when the time comes to choose the right closer for 2011.
Ken made a few comments on the situation by saying, "All this move says is for the dollars we would commit to him in arbitration, we can't commit that type of money to where he is now and where we are now. It's especially true since we have a few options
to go to. We have to allocate money to the best of our abilities to put together the team as a whole."
The team has been making moves on the front of the free agency. One of the recent signings to the side is Adam Dunn who’s made his way to the ball club for $56 million, in a 4-year deal. There are strides being made for resigning Paul Konerko and though
the 34-year-old is cautious on signing a deal soon, Ken is patient with the 12-year White Sox player. An agreement could come the club’s way after the winter meetings. Only time can tell what will happen in the coming days.
However, going back to the developing story, Bobby Jenks will be majorly missed. His 2010 performance sheet showcased a miserable evaluation depicting a 4.44 earning runs average. He attained 61 strikeouts and 27 saves in 55 games. His appearance in the
season was short lived when he suffered from ulnar neuritis in his right forearm in September.
Williams said a lot of positive things about the relief pitcher and he started with: "Bobby Jenks helped bring a World Series to Chicago, and I'll never forget that. Where we are with Bobby and the message I have to fans and to Bobby Jenks is, No. 1, he
gave us everything he had and performed very well for the White Sox. I'm proud of him as a person, player and as a dad. He's a heck of a dad too; just a good guy. I wish the best for him if, in fact, he ends up somewhere else."
