Bobby Martinez safely into fourth round of Billabong Rio Pro 2011 – Surfing Update
The American surfer, Bobby Martinez clinched the third round of the Billabong Rio Pro 2011 due to his intriguing forehand assault and inspiring backhand airborne heat at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil on Thursday, May 19.
Martinez captured the sixth heat of the day with a stunning score of 14.50 (out of 20), while Kelly Slater was unable to carry on further in the competition due to his average performance in the respective heat of the third round, ended 14.10 points at Rio
de Janeiro.
“There were some lefts and Kelly (Slater) went down to the rights and you’re always worried that he sees something that you don’t. I just got lucky, things worked to my advantage. I got that one right under his priority and that’s what he usually does. I
thought I’d try and reverse the role,” said Martinez.
Currently, he is placed on the 55th spot in the Men’s ASP World Rankings. If he wants to improve to a further extent in the top surfers list, he will have to certainly produce magic in his surfing styles and heats alongside the challenging waves
of the water.
“I hope this helps my seed, this is the best I’ve done in over a year. Last year I struggled a lot and this year I have struggled. I’ve had some tough heats, but everything’s tough these days. Sometimes the waves are tough and if the waves are good your
competitor is tough. Nothing is easy, but I’m just trying my best,” he added.
Meanwhile, the fourth round results of the 2011 Billabong Rio Pro have been announced, wherein Joel Parkinson has booked his place for the quarter-final at Rio de Janeiro tomorrow.
