Canada’s impressive player Bobby Milroy earned glory on his home soil as he became the Men’s Singles national champion after defeating the higher ranked Alex Pang in the final battle of Yonex Canadian National Championships 2013 in Canada, on Saturday, February 2.
The second seeded Milroy, who played terrific badminton all the way in the championship, continued his killing run in the final as well and overpowered Pang who was the top seeded shuttler in the draw.
Milroy got a perfect touch as he played with impressive speed and precision in the arena and easily thrashed his top seeded challenger in straight games with a decent margin of 21-17 and 21-16 in a clash that lasted for 38 minutes.
Meanwhile, the higher ranked Pang tried his best to stop the progress of his second seeded compatriot but he failed to play attacking and positive badminton in the ending points of both sets and went down in two games.
Pang played with phenomenal control in his shots and managed to take over the control of rallies from starting points of opening set.
However, Milroy started to accelerate his speed and managed to end up the aggression of his rival by making the score leveled.
The lower ranked Milroy did not show any confusion as he was in complete command of rallies until the end of first half when he was ahead on the board at 11-8.
After the one-minute break, the top seeded Pang played better badminton and remained successful in catching up his rival at 15-15.
But Milroy again controlled the pace by increasing his speed and remained successful in finishing up the opening game of this final encounter with a decent total of 21-17.
In the second game, Milroy did not lose his concentration at any stage in the first half and managed to set up a small lead of 11-9 until the break.
Pang again managed to elevate his play and he started to reduce the gap. He did not lose his focus at any stage and managed to level the score at 15-15.
However, Pang failed to show strong performance at this stage as Milroy played better badminton and ended up the contest by taking this second game with a superb 21-16 total on the board.
