Bobby Reynolds, Alex Bogdanovic reach the qualifying final round – AEGON Championships 2011
Qualifying top seed Bobby Reynolds defeated French Kenny De Schepper 7-6 (4), 6-3 on Saturday to advance into the final round of 2011 AEGON Championships qualification round. Ranked 109th in the world, the American made
a slow start to the match but as the match progressed he was able to up his game play ensuring his straight sets victory.
Reynolds committed a large number of unforced errors early in the opening set. Schepper was on his feet in a flash, every time there was an opportunity available. Unable to time his shots, the American failed to convert quite a
few break chances in the set. The set was forced into tie-breaker after both players held on to their serve games.
Having done all the hard work, the French was hoping for a strong finish to go 1-0 up in the set score but Reynolds had other ideas. With his supreme agility and unmatchable temperament, Reynolds got the better of his opponent
in the tie-breaker as he clinched four straight points to take complete control of the contest.
The contestants continued to display exciting tennis in the following set as well. Reynolds served brilliantly and created all sorts of problems for the challenger. Every time he was in trouble, he was able to serve his way out
of that. After both players took their first two serve games successfully, the score remained even at 2-2. However, the 28-year-old Reynolds lifted himself and came up with an excellent combination of shorts to make the first serve break of the match, taking
4-2 lead in the set.
Reynolds did not make too many mistakes afterwards as he executed a clever chip shot to complete his straight sets victory in a match that lasted for one hour and 26 minutes. His impressive 71 percent first serve conversion proved
to be the real difference between the two players at the end of the day. Schepper had his chances to break the serve but was unable to convert any of them and hence paid the heavy price.
In another match at the qualification tournament, Brit Alex Bogdanovic thrashed out number five seed Tim Smyczek of United States to make it to the final stage.
Looking to dominate the American right from the start, Alex started off very aggressively. With great foot work and admirable grass court skills, he looked at ease against his opponent. Playing strong baseline tennis, he created
four break chances during the match and then converted two of them to end the match after only one hour and four minutes of play.
