Bobby Reynolds vs. Amir Weintraub
American Bobby Reynolds, 155th in the world, ousted Amir Weintraub of Israel in three straight sets 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of 2011 Rimouski Challenger tour at Rimouski, Canada. It took one hour and forty two minutes for the American to book his berth at the semifinals of Rimouski Challenger.
For their first meeting on court both contenders seemed relatively in form. Unfortunately, Reynolds did not have a good start to the match as he lost the opening set 3-6. Reynolds hit 72 percent of the first serves, winning 85 percent of the points on them. Whereas, Weintraub was even worse than Reynolds as he hit two aces and won a meager 69 percent on his first serves. However, something to capitalize on were his break points as he saved 100 percent of them. In comparison Reynolds was unlucky to save a single opportunity that he faced.
The second set did not follow the same suit at all as the American put his experience to good use and broke the Israeli in the 10th game. The second set was moreover the same as far as converting serves into points was concerned. Reynolds won 72 percent of his first serves whereas Weintraub managed to win 70 percent. Reynolds’ saved 100 per cent of his breakpoints enroute to a 6-4 win in the second set.
The third set saw the American landing a 57 per cent of serves winning 75 per cent points from them. Whereas the Israeli landed with 67 per cent of first serves winning 64 per cent from them.
Being broken by the American in 9th game Weintraub lost the set 6-3.
Frederik Nielsen vs. Greg Ouellette
Danish Frederik Nielsen, a fourth seed here, outplayed Greg Ouellette of United States in straight sets 6-1, 7-6(3) at the quarterfinals of Rimouski Challenger tour. It took one hour and eight minutes for the Dane to assure his presence at the semifinals.
Given their first meeting on the courts, the Dane looked very enthusiastic about the first set. He served 61 per cent on target and managed to convert 86 per cent points on them. His opponent Ouellette only managed to win a meager 58 per cent on his first serves. Ouellette managed to save 71 per cent of the breakpoints compared to his opponent’s 0 per cent.
Being broken by the Dane in the seventh game, Ouellette suffered a breadstick defeat in the first set.
The second set saw the lower ranked exhibiting resistance to his Danish opponent landing with 56 per cent of his first serves. But examining the serve quality of both defenders, the Dane had a clear edge over the American again. The Dane had a remarkable serve percentage of 81 in the second set while Ouellette lagged slightly behind with 73 per cent. Nielsen was able to clinch a 7-6(3) win for himself.
Bobby Reynolds and Frederik Nielsen now move on ahead to meet each other at the semifinals of the Rimouski challenger tour.
