Bobby Reynolds beats Luca Vanni in the quarter-finals – Sacramento Challenger 2012 CH
Local veteran, Bobby Reynolds, successfully bounced over the Italian challenger, Luca Vanni, in the quarter-finals of the Sacramento Challenger on Friday. Initially, he received a shocker in the initial set by 5-7 but later he
quickly gained momentum and nudged up his 6-2, 6-3 triumph at the hard courts of California, United States.
Ranked 317th in the South African ATP World Tour Rankings, Luca Vanni, stepped on the right track and boldly contested against their American senior. Although, Reynolds’ replied with a strong determination and the score
line started to level down after every alternate game. However, both challengers successfully held their serves through providing each other with a strong competition. Vanni clinched the last two games and stamped his surprising lead by 7-5.
The 30-year-old American assertively entered the set with strong comeback and warded off all the break points that came in her way. She confidently maintained the upper hand by breaking his rival’s serve in the fifth game and seventh
game respectively. The Italian junior seemed powerless in front of his challenger. Reynolds nudged forward to steal the all without facing a single break, concluding the set with a 6-2 score line.
In the decider right-hander broke Vanni’s initial serve and completely shattered his confidence. He proved wise as he quickly stole the initial two games and marked a 2-love lead. Nonetheless, the Italian professional struggled
to come back. Fortunately, he managed to dissolve the American veteran’s serve in the sixth game, squaring the score line to 3-all. This aroused upsetting circumstances for the American, he the geared up to maintain his consistency in the game and cashed his
challenger’s last two serves, stamping the set with a 6-3 win.
The Italian professional attacked with nine aces but lost the lead in the match, as he double faulted six times at the critical moments. He just secured 46 percent initial serve with relatively better initial serve points but just
22 of 50 second delivery points. The higher ranked American secured a higher initial serve of 65 percent, converting 36 of 53 first and 18 of 29 second delivery points.
