Bobby Reynolds downs Alex Bogdanovic; moves into the main draw – AEGON Championships 2011
World number 141 Bobby Reynolds of USA prevailed over Alex Bogdanovic of Great Britain in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(5) in the final round of the qualifying draw of AEGON Championships at Queen’s Club in London on Sunday. It took the
American an hour and 28 minutes to beat his opponent in an evenly contested match.
Reynolds took the lead straight away as he broke Bogdanovic in the opening game of the first set and held his serve in the next game, taking a 2-0 lead. The German broke back in the fourth game to level the score at 2-2. However,
the American broke again in the seventh game and this time he did not allow his opponent to break back, serving out the set in the tenth game to clinch it 6-4.
The 28-year-old fired five aces and 71 percent of the first deliveries in the opening set, bagging 73 percent of the points on them. On the other hand, Bogdanovic kept his first serve percentage at 61 percent and won 64 percent
of the points on the first serve. The Brit converted one of the four break points he received on Reynold’s serve but failed to save two of the three break points on his own serve in the first set.
Reynolds and Bogdanovic held their serve throughout the second set, equalising the score at 6-6 and taking it to a tie-break. The American grabbed a single mini-break in the tie-break and capitalised on it to win 7-5.
The six feet tall delivered five aces in the second set. Reynolds had a low first serve percentage as he managed to hit just 58 percent of the first serve correctly. However, the American had an impressive conversion rate as he
converted an amazing 92 percent of the first serves into points in the second set. While, the Brit had a first serve percentage of 76 percent, converting 81 percent of them into points in the second set.
Both players reached the final qualifier without dropping any set. In the opening round, Reynolds defeated world number 221 Greg Jones of Australian in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(4). The American prevailed over French Kenny de Schepper
in straight sets 7-6(4), 6-3 in the second round.
In comparison, Bogdanovic beat Jonathan Eysseric in straight sets 6-0, 7-6(6) in the first round. In his last match, the Brit upset fifth seed Tim Smyczek of USA in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 in the second round.
This is Reynold’s fourth appearance at the AEGON Championships. He received a direct entry into the main draw on the previous three occasions. The American lost to Kazakh Andrey Golubev in three sets 2-6, 6-4, 6-7(3) in the opening
round last year.
The right handed will meet Rainer Schuettler of Germany in the first round of the main draw.
