Bobby Reynolds enters as top seed in the USTA Australian Open wildcard playoffs – Tennis News
World number 127, Bobby Reynolds has an opportunity to make it to the main round of the 2012 Australian Open by winning the USTA Australian Open wildcard playoffs. The tournament will be contested for three days starting 16th to
18thDecember, 2011. He starts the playoffs as the top seed and plans to live up to the expectations of everyone by winning the Australian Open main round wildcard.
Reynolds has dropped multiple ranks in the previous year. He was up there amongst top 70 players, with his top high rank of 63 but his dismal performances has forced him to play a qualifiers round for the Australian Open main round
qualification along with other players that ranked between 100 and 200. He has been a doubles partner with the former world number one, Andy Roddick.
He was not only facing a bad run at the courts but was injured for quite some time as well that forced him to pull out from several tournaments. He injured his wrist and didn’t return to courts for two years. He was happy that
he was making a comeback in the playoffs and was reported to have said, “It's taken me over two years to get back”.
American tennis professional won this year’s playoffs for the US Open and made an entry into the main round of the grand slam and it will be his second attempt to place a berth in the main round of another grand slam.
It is good to see that American players are coming up and confirming their fans that they will work hard and bring back those glory days that left with the retirement of former world number ones, Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi.
There is a tournament, World Team Tennis, contested in the summers and last for almost three weeks. Reynolds takes part in that tournament every summer and plays around 14 matches in almost 17 nights. He describes his participation
in that tournament a combination of three reasons, "I would say it's financial, it's guaranteed money, the match play and because I played college tennis, it's fun to play as a team."
He will join in seven other participants including Rhyne Williams, Jack Sock, Jessie Levine, Denis Kudla, Daniel Kosakowski, Steve Johnson and Robby Ginepri. It will be interesting to see who wins the grand slam entry this year.
Reynolds is the most superior ranked amongst all the participants but upsets are not a rare event in tennis and everyone will have to wait and see who makes it to the main round of 2012 Australian Open.
