Bobby Reynolds thrashed Jarmere Jenkins in the quarterfinal – Charlottesville Challenger 2011
Third seeded American Bobby Reynolds ended the winning streak of compatriot qualifier Jarmere Jenkins in the quarterfinal of Charlottesville Challenger 2011.
The two competitors had battled it out on indoor hard courts of the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Virginia. After a lengthy two hours and thirty two minutes the third seeded American had gotten the upper hand by bouncing back from a set down to score 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-4 on Thursday the 3rd of November 2011.
Reynolds had opted to serve first for the opening round and he easily bagged his first service game to place himself on the scoreboard at 1-0. Jenkins was also successful in holding his serve and eased himself on the scoreboard at 1-1. By the end of the fourth game, the two once more bagged their service games to turn the scoreboard at 2-2
The players kept matching a blow for a blow and the score progressed on even terms for the following eight games. By the end of the tenth game, each player had bagged five games each. Eventually the set was pushed into a tiebreaker at the end of the twelfth game.
The players kept matching an eye for an eye in the tiebreaker and the score tied for the last time at three points each. From there on wards Jenkins was on a roll as he grabbed most of his service points and rushed past his adversary to clinch the tiebreaker at 7-4 and go one up in the match.
The second set was initiated by Jenkins and he got off to a bad start as he was unable to hold his serve. Mean while, Reynolds was quick to bag two successive games and positioned himself on the scoreboard with a mini lead of 2-0. In the following two games the players held their serves and the score had shifted to 3-1.
It was in the fifth game that Jenkins once more double faulted on his serve and endorsed a crucial break. In doing so; Reynolds once more took the lead at 5-1 by the end of the sixth game. As the players bagged a service game each, Reynolds had clogged the set with a 6-2 victory.
After the first two sets each players had clenched a set and opening the decisive set was Jenkins but once more he was unable to hold his serve, while, Reynolds capitalized on the break and took a mini lead off 2-0. However, Jenkins made a return with a hold of serve and by breaking back to tie the score at 2-2 by the end of the fourth game.
In the fifth game Reynolds benefitted from a breakpoint and then held his serve to once more take the lead. As the players once more held their respective serves, Reynolds sealed his victory of the set.
The third seed reserved a spot in the semi final and will be facing fifth seeded South African Izak Van Der Merwe.
