Bobby Sanguinetti committed to blast off next season with Carolina Hurricanes –NHL offseason Update
Picked as the 21st overall pick in the first-round of the 2006 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft by New York Rangers, Bobby Sanguinetti, now part of Carolina Hurricanes' roster, will have a chance at proving himself once the season starts
in October.
The 23-year-old defenseman has only had the chance of playing five major league regular season games with his original draft team, New York, during the 2009-2010 season and remained in the American Hockey League (AHL) for the remainder of the season, even
after being traded to Carolina in June of 2010.
Last Friday, Sanguinetti signed a one-year, two-way deal with Hurrcanes, and hopes to impress them at training camp to allow himself a position on the team.
"I'm at the age now where I need to put it all together and not just be content with being good offensively or defensively", said Sanguinetti. "I'm just going to go out there and play my game and rely on my instincts. Obviously, I'm an offensive guy and
that's what I'm always going to be, but I just need to make sure I'm good on both sides of the puck".
Last year’s training camp showed high prospect for the young defender as he excelled in performance.
Unfortunately, Sanguinetti was sent to their AHM affiliate club, Charlotte, and later on required surgery on his hip which was constantly nagging him.
"It was tough -- more mentally than anything", said Sanguinetti. "I had a really good camp and thought I'd maybe get a chance to play (with Carolina). Going down pretty early in the season was tough. I'm just trying to put that behind me now. I'm healthy
and ready to get back at it".
Hurricanes had acquired Sanguinetti in-exchange for a future sixth-round and second-round picks at that time, but still not have used him on the ice as of yet.
The Trenton, New Jersey, United States native, has played two seasons in the AHL so far and has registered high numbers which make him NHL ready according to his peers.
Bobby Sanguinetti might just make it this year around, which will be in a sense, his make-it or break-it season.
