Bobby Thigpen promoted to be Chicago White Sox bullpen coach – MLB Update
Currently Chicago White Sox’s front office is quite busy making some potential decisions ahead of Major League Baseball’s annual Winter Meetings.
Showing confidence on their current pitching coach Bobby Thigpen, they promoted him to be franchise’s bullpen coach and are hoping for a good start in 2013 Major League season.
Former professional baseball player Thigpen is still the Chicago White Sox’s all time leader in saves. As a player, he was a consistent in the league as he played with some of the leading MLB franchises during his career.
Meanwhile, after his retirement, he took the White Sox pitching coach job as a challenge that showed his courage and true spirited nature.
Now as bullpen coach, he will be sharing his experience with the Indians' rotation. Last season, Thigpen’s contribution was huge when White Sox started winning at middle of the season.
He also prepared White Sox well during Spring Training. However, despite Thigpen’s great contribution in rebuilding White Sox’s aggressive starting line-up during Spring Training and at middle of the season, the overall results did not favour him as his team lost bitterly in the end and could not qualify for the post-season.
"This is something I am looking forward to, I was hoping to get this job and working with Coop will be great. He is obviously one of the best pitching coaches in the baseball based on what he has done since he has been with Chicago. I know he and Juan were close so I just look to be some (reinforcement) for him. He is the pitching coach and I am the bullpen coach," Thigpen said.
There was also a speculation that Thigpen was initially persuaded by team Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf for a Minor League job.
"He was asking me for years and years when I would see him at the teams fantasy camp if I would be interested," Thigpen said for Jerry Reinsdorf’s offer.
Experts believe that Thigpen will prove a great addition in Robin Ventura’s coaching staff. His past playing experience and past four years’ coaching job certainly will bring the White Sox’s roster positive stability.
