Bobby Valentine excited over the prospect of a managerial role at Boston Red Sox – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox’s managerial candidate Bobby Valentine is excited on the prospect of getting one of the top jobs in Major League Baseball and the franchise has signalled that they have no other candidate who is as charismatic as Bobby. After spending almost
eight hours at Fenway Park, Valentine was not only excited, but nervous as well.
“If I look a little worn out it’s because I sweat the whole day. I’ve been very excited about this,” Valentine said. “I haven’t been as nervous, I guess, or whatever it is for anything in a long, long time. It was invigorating, challenging and stimulating.
All those good things.”
Valentine asserted that the process was intriguing and that he had never experienced anything like this previously. Although a veteran manager, Boston’s approach made him want this job. Bobby has managed teams like New York Mets and the Texas Rangers, earning
a reputation for transforming average squads into a winning combination. Team owner John Henry is already looking for someone experienced to handle the affairs of the team and Valentine seems to be the most fitting choice in this scenario.
Nevertheless, Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington is yet to give his nod to the prospective manager and a lot will depend on how comfortable the relation between both is. Cherington praised Valentine after the meeting and described him as highly experienced
with a creative, intelligent and accepting mind.
Even though the team has given a positive response to Valentine, it still plans to interview other candidates to ensure that they are making the right choice. Detroit Tigers’ third base coach Gene Lamont is expected to visit Fenway Park later in the week
and once both parties have met, only then can something be deduced.
Nevertheless, Valentine continues to be optimistic about his chances for the job. Valentine stressed that he would be willing to accept any word of advice from the upper management, taking it as an opportunity to grow. His managerial record at 1117-1072,
nevertheless, speaks for itself and it would take a lot of foolishness not to consider Valentine for the job.
