Bobby Valentine sure to join Boston Red Sox – MLB News
It looks as if the Boston Red Sox are looking to Bobby Valentine as a potential candidate for the vacant managerial position in the club.
Bobby Valentine, who was interviewed by the Red Sox Ben Cherington on Monday, November 21, had indulged in many disputes with his last club, the New York Mets. The 61-year-old Valentine, was reported to be involve in personality clashes with the Mets’ the
then general manager Steve Phillips. Their grudges were evident to the media on a daily basis, which eventually resulted in the termination of Valentine. It put a negative effect over his consideration for the position.
However, the record he had under his belt might wash all his wrongs, but Cherington still believes that Valentine will have to prove that he has changed. During his stay in the Mets as manager, he played 45 games with an above average of .500. Valentine
was fired from his job in 2002, when he first dropped to less than .500 in his six full seasons. He has also been a part of the Japanese’ club Chiba Lotte Marines from 2004 to 2009.
According to news sources, Valentine has shown his commitment to change things for the betterment of the club.
"I hope I'll change for the better, because I never won a world championship," he said. "I've had bad experiences that I hope I've learned from, and I've had good experiences that I hope I learned from."
Cherington emphasised that Valentine will have to prove a change in his personality.
"He's had really good experiences. He's been to the top," Cherington said. "And he's had other experiences that haven't gone as well. But no one who's managed in the big leagues ... has had all good experiences. That is how the game works.”
Ben believes that even though Valentine does not have good experiences in the past, but his commitment to the club will be more important than his past. Valentine, who considers New Jersey’s general manager Lou Lamoriello and Los Angeles Angels’ manager
Tommy Lasorda his mentors, has consulted both to reach a valuable decision.
It will be interesting to see if the Red Sox hire Valentine and to see what type of impact that he will have on the club before the regular season begins.
