Bobby Valentine unveiled as Terry Francona’s successor at Boston Red Sox – MLB Update
The Boston Red Sox have finally found former manager Terry Francona’s replacement in none other than the veteran analyst and manager Bobby Valentine. His appointment was highly expected, but Gene Lamont was the other candidate who was tipped for the top
job. In the end, the management had to side with Valentine, who has over 15 years of managerial experience in Major League Baseball as well as in Japan.
Valentine’s managerial skills will instil stability in Boston’s bull-pen, which has come under scrutiny of late and there have been allegations on players for drinking in the dugout during games. Although the players involved were supposedly not part of
those games, but it was against the decorum of the ballclub and owner John Henry rightly pointed it out as well.
Bobby was not available for commenting on the details of the contract because he is currently in transit from Japan to the United States, but rest assured, his job is now guaranteed. It is expected that Valentine will address to a press conference as soon
as he returns to his homeland, which will further clarify the picture.
It has been two months since Francona handed in his resignation to the management after the end of this past season, but the relevant authorities were in no hurry to name a replacement and thus interviewed every possible candidate before naming Terry’s successor.
Valentine is known for his aggressive intent and this is one reason as to why the Red Sox have nominated him to handle the daily affairs of the team. Lamont, on the contrary, believes in a laid-back approach and this is exactly what the team does not want,
especially after proving itself as one of the best teams on the circuit. Nevertheless, an abrupt exit on the last day of the regular season has raised many questions on the roster’s ability to transform its raw talent into a more consistent performance and
Valentine might just be the right person to do that.
The new manager will have to deal with general manager Ben Cherington and it will be interesting to see how this relationship blossoms with the passage of time.
