Bobby Zamora breaks leg against wolverhampton Wanderers
Fulham forward, Bobby Zamora has suffered a broken leg during the teams Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
The team went on to beat Wolves by a score line of two goals to one, however, it was not all good news for the team as their start forward, Zamora suffered a serious injury which resulted in him breaking his leg.
The forward was brought down by Wolves midfielder Karl Henry near the twenty seventh minute. However, Zamora didn't get back up from the challenge, lying on the ground until the medics arrived. They gave Zamora an oxygen mask to breathe through, confirming that Zamora had suffered a more than serious blow to his leg.
In an interview with BBC following the conclusion of the match, Fulham's manager Mark Hughes was reported to have said: "He has broken his leg just above the ankle."
"He will have an operation tomorrow. He's out for a minimum of four months but if it's worse it could be longer. It's a big loss."
It is unconfirmed whether he has broken more then one bone in the leg. The severity of his injury can only be confirmed in the coming few days.
This is a huge blow for Zamora on a personal level. The forward already missed out on Enlgand's trip to the World Cup finals earlier in the summer this year having suffered an Achilles injury.
The injury would also mean that Zamora would be missing out on any chances of being in the England squad for the Euro 2012 qualifiers that are scheduled to take place. It will also be a major blow for Fulham who have gone ahead to state that the player is irreplaceable and his absence will strongly be felt by the team and the fans.
Fulham were looking to go on to draw their fourth game in a row. However, rookie Mousa Dembele grabbed a very late goal which was both his and the teams' second, in the last minute of regulation play to give Fulham their first win on the night. However there were no celebrations following the end of the match as everyone seemed to be more than traumatized by the horrific injury that Zamora had suffered during the game.
This is the second season running in the Premier League in which a player has gone as far as to break his leg during a match. Last season it was Arsenal's upcoming youngster Aaron Ramsey who suffered the same fat at the hands of Ryan Shawcross. However the player is now nearing a full recovery and Fulham fans will be hoping Zamora can recover from his blow as fast as the young Gunner has.
