The two teams from Argentine Primera Clausura, Colon (http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Boca-Juniors-c38658 locked horns on Sunday, 27 March, 2011 at the Estadio Brigadier General Estanislao Lopez.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Julio-Cesar-c19961 Falcioni’s side (Boca Juniors) achieved a much-needed victory when they edged past Fernando Gamboa’s side by a 1-0 margin.
The home side went in with a standard 4-4-2 formation. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-Pozo-c11183 started in goal for the hosts.
On the other hand, the visitors also went in with a 4-4-2 formation. Juan Roman Riquelme and Martin Palermo formed a partnership upfront for the Los Xeneizes while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristian-c9491 David Lucchetti guarded the net for the visitors.
Both the teams started a bit cautiously and it took a lot of time for the game to settle down.
Most of the game was played in the midfield and no team were able to produce any clear-cut chances. Damian Rodrigo Diaz caused visitors a bit of trouble from the left flank but the Juniors’ defence stood firm.
On the other hand, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leandro-Somoza-c21847 and Walter Daniel Erviti Roldan produced some warning signals for the hosts but were not able to break their defence. Both teams did create some half chances but no one was able to capitalise as the first half ended goalless.
Both teams looked a completely different unit in the second half especially the visitors who added some pace to their game. For the first time in the match, Los Xeneizes looked threatening to score as they came forward on quite a few occasions.
They were rewarded for their good work in the 61st minute when Riquelme netted his shot past Pozo to give the visitors an important 1-0 advantage. The visitors tightened their defence after that goal as the hosts tried to get on level terms. It
looked bleak for the hosts as the visitors defence showed no signs of fragility. Ariel Hernan Garce added to the Colon’s woes after he received a red card in the 89th minute and the match finished 1-0 in favour of the visitors.
With this win, Boca Juniors go to the 17th spot with 7 points while Colon go down to the 12th spot.
Colon will now travel away to take on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/San-Lorenzo-c40436 in their next game while Boca Juniors will host Estudiantes in their next match on Sunday, 3 April, 2011.
