Boca Juniors striker Martin Palermo announces retirement – Argentina Primera A news
Argentina international and Boca Juniors striker Martin Palermo has revealed that he would be retiring from all kinds of football at the end of the current 2010-11 season.
This means that the Los Xeneizes match against Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata on Sunday, 19 June, 2011 would be the striker’s last career assignment.
The 37-year-old confirmed that he would never consider reversing his decision. He added that he was thinking about the matter for the past two years and will not change his decision.
“It has been two years that I have been preparing for my retirement with a psychologist,” said Palermo. “I attended one back in 1999 after my [knee] injury.”
The striker further added, “It is fundamental to have established clear projects early. My decision, in any way, is irrevocable.”
Palermo has been in fine form in the ongoing season and was also a part of Argentina’s 2010 FIFA World Cup squad which was his first world cup campaign. He made his cup debut against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Greece-c2908 after coming on as substitute in the 89th minute and

After rejoining the Los Xeneizes in 2004, Martin has won three Primera Division titles in 2005, 2006 and 2008. He has also bagged 15 awards for being the top scorer while playing with Boca Juniors and since rejoining, he has earned this award 10 times. He
was also honoured with the American Golden Shoe award in 2007.
Now the centre forward has made a final decision of retiring from the game and said that the sport gave him a lot of respect and fame. He added that every player has to call it a day and he felt it was the right time for him to do so.
