Bodemeister taken to Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital to determine illness
The Bob Baffert trained, Bodemeister, does not look at the top of his game as the trainer told the press that:
“I’m not happy with the way he’s been training” and “We sent him for a complete examination.”
The runner, who is currently under the ownership of Zayat Stables, was sent to a veterinary hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, for a physical evaluation.
It seems that the runner has an undetermined illness which is affecting his performance. Owner Ahmed Zayat confirmed that he will be going to Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Kentucky since "no one here in [California] knows what's wrong with him."
After the Preakness Stakes, trainer Bob Baffert decided to give Bodemeister a break, as the trainer announced “we were never intending to run in the Belmont.”

Before the Haskell Invitational, Baffert had announced that Bodemeister had spiked a fever but it wasn’t serious.
Foaled by Storm Cat mare, Untouched Talent, the sophomore claimed the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park, where he covered the distance of 1 1/8, miles and finished before his stable-mate, Secret Circle.
After the Arkansas Derby, he tried his luck in the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby and finished a strong second second to the Doug O’Neill trained, I’ll Have Another. In the Grade 1 Preakness Stakes, the runner tried his best with jockey Mike Smith on his back, but
again, all his effort was in vain as he finished second again to I’ll Have Another.
Over the course of his six starts, the son of Empire Maker has never finished later than second.
The colt was in Del Mar, but remained inactive. His last work-out he recorded was on 8th July at Santa Anita Park, where he completed a distance of five furlongs in 1 minute and 01.00 seconds.
Over the course of time, the talented colt has accumulated earnings worth $217,467. Once he recovers from this setback, Bodemeister will be on his way to success.
It was announced earlier this year that, upon Bodemeister’s retirement, he will be stand at WinStar for stud duty.
