Bodin Issara – Maneepong Jongjit make it to Men’s Doubles semi-final at Vietnam Open Grand Prix
Thailand’s top shuttlers Bodin Issara and Maneepong Jongjit penetrated into Men’s Doubles semi-final after showing a strong show in quarter-final when they overpowered Malaysia’s Thien How Hoon and Wee Kiong Tan at the Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open Grand Prix 2012 in Vietnam, on Friday, August 24.
The World Number 16 Issara and Jongjit, who are the second seeded shuttlers in Men’s Doubles main draw of the event, had to dig into their reserves to produce impressive shots and they managed to win the battle in rubber games with a reasonable margin.
The higher ranked Issara and Jongjit took the opening game in a tight fashion but lost the following set easily. Nonetheless, they proved their mettle in the deciding game and won this quarter-final contest in a convincing manner.
The sixth seeded Thien How and Wee Kiong, in the meanwhile, played with wonderful aggression but they remained unlucky as they lost the opening set with a narrow margin. However, they fought back and took the second set to stretch the battle to the decider.
The Malaysian shuttlers failed to tackle the incredible aggression of their Thai rivals and lost the fight with a respectable margin.
The opening game was nail biting when both sides put up thrilling show of top quality badminton and remained close until the end of first half.
After the one-minute break, both pairs continued their attacking play and reached at 21-21 when Issara and Jongjit played smart badminton and took the ending points to win the set with a 23-21 margin on the board.
In the following set, Thien How and Wee Kiong put up staggering show as they played dominating badminton this time and they remained successful in pushing their rivals on back foot in opening half.
After the break, Issara and Jongjit tried to play with aggression but their failed to create pressure on their Malaysian rivals and lost the set with a margin of 15-21.
In the decider, Issara and Jongjit geared up their speed by playing attacking badminton. They spared no chance for the Malaysian shuttlers to put up strong resistance and easily won the game with a one-sided 21-10 score on the board.
The impressive Issara and Jongjit managed to win this fight in three games with a reasonable difference of 23-21, 15-21 and 21-10.
