My family is going to Florida in July and I would like to learn to body surf. Is it difficult, are there any tricks to learning how to do it?

  1. Body surfing is all about finess and style.  Some people just look like straight goobers out there trying to body surf.  The main thing you need to remember when body surfing, is that you need to put yourself in a position to catch the wave.  As long as you find the point to where you can catch the waves, you'll be on your way to body surfing heaven.

Once you get the basics down, trick are endless.  Just like any other sport.  But, I'll give you this advice.  Try the 360.  While on the wave, rotate your leading hand waveside (or into the wave), and quickly turn your head forward.   Your body will naturally turn with your head, and you'll find yourself doing a 360 before you know it!  It's a simple trick, but like I said, style and finess bro.  Good luck!

  2. A really cool way to do it is let the wave pass over you and dolphin kick with it- you end up shooting out of the front of the wave and riding it in... or you get smashed, but either way it's heaps of fun :-)

  3. make sure you are a good swimmer and you use fins, like duck feet or vipers, you should look them up on line and buy them

  4. Go out past where the waves are breaking. Wait for large wave to come. Swim back to shore letting wave pick you up - keep back straight, HEAD UP and use arms to keep you flat. It's fun and you will get the hang of it quickly. Keep head up - remember the body follows where the head goes.
