  1. Maybe not.  Police work entails LONG hours.  You don't just walk away when your shift is over.  If there is something going on you have to finish it.  You wouldn't walk off a man hunt to go do your upper body work-out, now would you?  If you're out in the woods for the past fifteen hours looking for a three year old, you wouldn't drop and do your hundred crunches would you?  you have to be on the job FIRST - then work out when you can.  If you get into a SWAT position you'll have more time to work out, but it's difficult to get those positions unless you are EXTREMELY motivated and have the skills and physical endurance to do it.  Police work is very rewarding - what do you get out of bodybuilding?...besides some trophies on the mantle?  Think about what you WANT in return for your work...  is applause good enough - or would you like to go to bed at night knowing you put a douche-bag in jail for hurting a child?  You decide.

  2. Ever heard of Ronnie Coleman? He is a 8 time Mr Olympia winner..He is a police officer....read the link

  3. Ronnie Coleman was Mr. Universe from 1998 to 2005.  He was also a police officer during this time.

  4. As most have said prior - police work involves long hours - but you can make time to work out - most departments participate in the police Olympics (many departments have their own gym so you can work out before or after work -during hours  that other gyms are closed)....you just have to prioritize your time and be willing to work out even when you are tired.

  5. It might be better to have a part time job that pays just enough for you to live, so that you have more time to devote to your art.

  6. Depends.  Our department has several bodybuilders as officers.  Some compete, some do not.  The problem is that there is a height to weight ratio for employment.  The weight of the bodybuilders is over the maximum for their height.  That means that they must take and pass a physical agility test every year when it comes time for their annual review.  If they can't pass the test, they don't get their pay raises.

Also, we have turned down applicants that were in peak condition, but were over the weight for their height.

  7. it is very long hours.

my bf is not a body builder but he does like to keep up his muscles. he is currently in the academy. he starts his day at 4:30 in the morning and goes til about 5:30-7 at night. it just all depends. he makes time for the gym, but he's always telling me he's losing his strength etc, cuz he doenst push very hard, (as to not get injured). but it just depends on how long you train. during your academy time, you may or may not have time to keep up with your weights. just remember you need to study for tests, write a lot of papers during the academy etc. its very time consuming. it just depends on you and how well you can manage your time.... but after the academy you should have time to keep it up.

work hard and you can do it! good luck!
