I've gotten bad rashes from my surfboard, and heard of this stuff called bodyglide that will prevent the rash...

what is it, and does it work?

  1. It's an anti-chafing lotion that's more so used with runners and swimmers. I use the stuff when I go on long runs/marathons.

I wouldn't recommend it for surfing, however. You need some sort of friction between you and your board, or else you will constantly slip and slide across the board while trying to paddle, and that is not good.

Use of a rash guard or wetsuit will give you much better results. It eliminates rashes by blocking the skin-board wax contact from happening in the first place, and make sure it fits a little tight so it will also prevent armpit rashes from happening also. While preventing the rashes, it also doesn't eliminate the board-user friction needed while paddling. So it's a win-win :)

Rash guard is probably even a cheaper alternative in the long run. A new bottle of bodyglide costs another $7 when you run out. A rash guard will last you years and you can get one for around 20 bucks.

  2. I would just buy a rashguard or even a wetsuit jacket. To get rid of a rash i use some rash cream stuff. You can buy that at your local drug store.
