  1. Its cruising speed or airspeed is (482mph)  490mph is probably the correct speed. Dont get ground speed and airspeed confused, because they are totally different! ground speed is the speed the aircraft is traveling while it is on the ground. airspeed is the estimated speed the aircraft is traveling in the air!

  2. Per the Type Certificate Date Sheet T00001SE for the B-777-333 it is as follows:

    Airspeed Limits:

    VMO/MMO = 330KIAS/.89M.

For other airspeed limits, see the appropriate FAA approved Airplane Flight Manual

  3. all speeds are dependent on altitude and winds aloft

be careful to differentiate groundspeed with indicated airspeed.

groundspeed is the speed at which the aircraft is moving across the ground if it were on the ground

and indicated airspeed is the speed at which the aircraft is moving through the air, which can change due to winds.

the 777-300ER has a cruising speed of Mach 0.84 at 35,000 feet which translates to 555 mph (895 km/h) groundspeed.

that is the cruising speed advertised by Boeing but as always, many factors like wind, distance, cruising altitude and load can all alter the speed at which a 777 cruises at.

therefore, you can say that your magazine is right.

I think your magazine just had a conversion problem

896km/h will not give you 490mph and vice versa.

    555mph gives you 893.185920022 km/h
