Several are in different stages of construction and the first example is within a few months of first flight.  The schedule has slipped about a year because of unforeseen problems involved in the development of this revolutionary airliner.  Boeing has an excellent web page about the new plane.

The program entry into service is currently reported as about 9 months behind schedule, not a year.  Recent news reports show two flight airplanes in final assembly, plus two non flying structural test airplanes.  www.boeing.com can keep you up to date, or newairplane.com.  According to the news release on the latter site, there are 21 airplanes in various stages of construction.
