Bogomolov/Ebden down Bachinger/Moser to claim doubles title – Atlanta Tennis Championships 2011
After a nail biting contest that followed on the hard courts of Atlanta, the United States, the unseeded pair of Alex Bogomolov of America and Matthew Ebden of Australia won the doubles title at Atlanta Tennis Championships, defeating
the German duo of Matthias Bachinger and Frank Moser on Sunday afternoon.
It took one hour and thirty four minutes for Bogomolov and Ebden to edge past the Germans in the three-set thriller, settling the final scores at 3-6, 7-5, 10-8, to claim the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour
250 doubles title.
Both teams put up an amazing display of high quality pro tennis and battled it out till the last minute of play to decide the deserving winner of the game. Bachinger and Moser appeared in control of the contest in the initial stages
but their aggression tended to fade away later on, causing their fall in the game.
It was an evenly poised contest all the way and both pairs played equally good. It was only a matter of time that Bachinger and Moser frittered some crucial opportunities in the second set, which ultimately wore them out to finish
on the losing end. Once the Germans dropped the second set, Bogomolov and Ebden got the momentum they needed to conclude victory in the third set of the match to claim the championship.
Bachinger and Moser had a blistering start in the opening set and took hold of the game with an early serve break. Both pairs reeled off 10 out of 16 first serve points in the first set but the break point conversions from the
German duo proved to be the differentiating factor in the game. Bogomolov and Ebden cashed just one out of their four break chances in the opener but their opponents converted three out of six opportunities to bag the first set at 6-3, getting one up in the
contest.
The contest got heated up in following set, with Bogomolov and Ebden labouring hard to get the better of their opponents. Again both teams collected 14 first serve points each in the set but Bogomolov and Ebden stung a critical
serve break in the last moments of the second set to reach 7-5 and levelled the contest with one set a piece.
The decider also went on neck-to-neck but Bogomolov and Ebden clinched the vital opportunity to cash in the match point, finishing he match up at 10-8 to claim the Atlanta Tennis Championships Doubles title.
