Bogomolov/Ebden outplay Fisher/Huss in doubles first round – Atlanta Tennis Championships 2011
In the last contest that followed on Tuesday afternoon, the combination of Alex Bogomolov of the United States and Matthew Ebden of Australia stood victorious against the Aussie pair of Ashley Fish and Stephen Huss in the opening
round of Atlanta Tennis Championships doubles.
The entertaining contest lasted for one hour and twenty seven minutes before Bogomolov and Ebden sealed a comprehensive victory against the Australian duo in straight sets 7-6(5), 7-5, to move into the second round of the ATP (Association
of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 event in Atlanta.
It was an evenly poised contest throughout, with both pairs putting up a hard fight to come out as the winner. Fisher and Huss hung in the game till the end and played magnificently all the way but it was only the matter of time
that Bogomolov and Ebden clinched the crucial points in the game to become victorious.
The contest took with intense tennis being played from the two teams and some early exchange of assertive winners. Bogomolov and Ebden served brilliantly with 70 per cent accuracy and secured 19 first serve points in the opening
set, while their opponents followed them with 12 points. Bogomolov and Ebden were the first one to strike a serve break in the opener, getting into a 4-2 lead but a timely reply from the Australians brought them down to level the scores at 4-4.
Fisher and Huss stuck to their aggressive approach in the contest and took the scores to 6-6, imposing a decisive tie breaker round. The decider also went on neck-to-neck but Bogomolov and Ebden finally got a much needed mini-break
to close out the opening set at 7-6(5), to get one up in the contest.
The following set was a complete replication of the first with, with scores tying at 5-5, after an exchange on serve breaks from both pairs. The second was about to enter a tie break round when an all-important serve break from
Bogomolov and Ebden left them serving for the match at 6-5. Bogomolov and Ebden closed out the contest at 7-5 to get a pass to the second round of the tournament, where they will face off against the American duo of James Blake and John Isner.
