  1. Yes, it can matter. Your pet may have resistance to its own germs but not to others. Here is a quote from a New Mexico dept. of health state advisory about pets:

Question – Should my pets get boiled water too?

Answer – Yes, this is a good idea because many pets, such as dogs, can get some of the same diseases as humans and can give these diseases to their owners.

Contact your local or state health dept--they usually have online info about boil water orders. Or call your vet.

  2. My dogs drink water from the streams when we camp/hike, but I try to limit them to a few slurps. For meals I let them drink the same water I drink, which is either hand-pumped with a backpacking water filter or treated with iodine tablets... they don't mind the taste!

  3. I would just to be safe. why would you want to give your dog ecoli?

  4. my dog eat's dead mice and other things the neighbours cat drags over to my house as "gifts"and you don't want to know the stuff she finds to roll in, in the bush, she drinks swamp water and ditch water and she is as healthy as can be (so says our vet)just had her yearly check up last week,so I cannot see it hurting them

  5. To be safe, if you boil water for yourself you should do the same for your pets.
